The hook grip, as the name implies, is all about creating a hook that diminishes the need for grip strength/ endurance. That’s important because sometimes the grip will be an extreme limiter, as with barbell cycling, or when lifting heavy. The hook grip addresses that issue. Of course meaningful grip strength is required. There are very high level weightlifters who clean & snatch without using the hook. But mastering the hook grip is critical for barbell fluency.
WHITE-ORANGE focus on tight & crisp technique on each rep, before adding weight. Be conservative with any weight added — good form over big ego. BLUE-PURPLE+ should push the weight, but still be conscious of technique throughout.
